Stadio Olimpico, Serravalle
San Marino v. Moldova
Ah the agony! With 20
minutes remaining, San Marino were well and truly in this one with the scores
still at 0-0. A famous draw was so close
you could almost touch it.
But the final twenty minutes told a familiar tale. As with the England match last week it took a
penalty to break the deadlock, on this occasion substitute Serghei Dadu scored
within a minute of coming on the pitch.
A deflated San Marino conceded a second a few minutes later
after some poor defending to Alexandru Epureanu’ss header and that was
that. There was still time for San
Marino to come agonisingly close to registering a goal, but Fabio Vitaioli was
unable to convert, so still no gaols to celebrate.
But what a close performance this was, and a real
encouragement despite the ovbious disappointment at coming so close to terrific
point.
